1/6/2016 - SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. - -- The 20th Force Support Squadron now offers around-the-clock access to the main fitness center at Shaw Air Force Base, South Carolina.
The areas available for after-hours access include the free weights, strength resistance, cardio, stretching, and men and women's locker rooms.
So far, overall response to the program has been outstanding, said Charlie Glover, 20th FSS fitness and sports director.
To sign up for after-hours access to the gym, Team Shaw members must be active duty (including Guard or Reservists on active duty status), a Department of Defense civilian or contractor with a valid common access card, or a dependent 18 years of age or older.
Team Shaw members can register their CAC any time during the fitness center's normal hours, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday-Friday. Members only need to complete a brief orientation on the services, rules, and regulations of the around-the-clock service and sign a statement of understanding.
This service is especially beneficial to those who may work odd hours or are otherwise unable to make it to the fitness center during its normal hours.
"In addition to boosting morale, qualified members of the Team Shaw family no longer have their fitness goals limited by time," said Derrick Rhems, 20th FSS marketing and promotions director. "If the member would like to get some time in on the weights at 3 a.m., no problem; we now support that member around the clock."
Though the fitness center is accessible at any time, it will still be manned only during normal duty hours. However, entry access and surveillance systems, along with emergency equipment such as a defibrillator, first aid kits, and phones, are in place to provide members with safety and security during their workout.
As Team Shaw strives for a better, healthier new year, all-hours access to the fitness center is a big step toward providing members with the equipment and services they may need to start the year off right.
