Outdoor Recreation operates the Falcons Nest Fam Camp, Shaw Pools, Skeet and Trap Range, Recreation Supply Equipment Rental, and the Base Picnic Grounds. In addition it provides guided trips, events, classes and a wide variety of outdoor recreational activities to serve military personnel, their dependents, DoD civilians and retirees.

The Base Picnic Pavilions and Grounds are located adjacent to Memorial Lake and include a covered pavilion with barbecue grills and picnic tables, rest rooms and playground equipment. Available for Squadron parties, cookouts, birthday's and other events.

Rentals:

The Recreation Supply branch is collocated in the Outdoor Recreation office. The recreation supply checkout provides patrons with items ranging from campers, tents, boats and trailers to barbecue grills, gardening tools and ice chests. Items available for rent are listed on our brochure. All rentals are available on a daily, weekend or weekly basis. We pride ourselves on providing everything you need from your outdoor adventures to your back yard party, recreational and gardening needs.

Storage Area:

 A locked, fenced storage lot, located on the east side of the base near the skeet and trap range, is available for patron usage. Personal recreational vehicles (i.e. campers, boats, motor homes, and privately owned vehicles) may be stored by individuals that are going on temporary duty or permanent change of station, with a follow-on assignment back to Shaw.

Individuals may register for use of this lot through Outdoor Recreation and individuals will be designated a parking spot number. Keys for the lot are controlled by Outdoor Recreation during normal duty hours and are available for checkout from the Lodging desk after normal duty hours with appropriate identification.

The Base Swimming Pools operate from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Woodland Pool is located next to the Base Chapel and across from the Carolia Skies Club and Conference Center. This pool has a water slide, wading pool and large sun deck. It is utilized for children and adult swimming lessons, daily lap swim and open recreation swimming.

Lakeside Pool, behind the Community Center, provides special hours for youth program swimming, daily lap swim, water aerobics and open recreational swimming. Lakeside Pool has a low diving board and wading pool. Changing rooms and showers are available at both pools.

Falcons Nest FamCamp is a top-of-the-line On-Base Family Campground and RV Park. There are 20 ten-foot by 58-foot recreational vehicle sites complete with water, sewer and electrical hook-ups. Each site is accompanied by a 10-foot by 20-foot picnic pad with table and barbecue grill. Adjacent to the Famcamp is the Outdoor Recreation building. This 4,476 square-foot building is complete with a storage warehouse, recreation supply rental items, convenience store, showers, laundry room with internet access and campers lounge. For the convenience of campers a dump station is also located at the FamCamp.

For our customers' added convenience, postal service is available at the Outdoor Recreation service counter. Properly stamped outgoing mail can be left at the Outdoor Recreation counter for delivery to the post office. The address for incoming mail is:

• Reservations can be made 60 days in advance for active duty and 30 days in advance for all other authorized users although no reservations are required.

The Skeet and Trap Range provides skeet, trap and archery shooting. Intramural shooting, special events and a small inventory of supplies are available.

The Skeet and Trap range has three skeet ranges, one trap range, and one rifle and pistol range. The range is a member of the South Carolina Skeet Shooting Association and National Skeet Shooting Association. Skeet, trap, bow, and reloading lessons are available. Ammunition and reloads are available for purchase by customers. Intramural programs of skeet and trap are conducted, and up to 10 registered shoots are conducted each year.

The range provides targets for skeet and rifle/pistol ranges, club guns for use by customers, and a small clubhouse with a limited variety of beverages and fast-food items.
