- Holiday (Thanksgiving, Christmas & AF Birthday), and E-4 and below birthday meals are hosted throughout the year. A Spouses Dinner is held the first Saturday of each month at 4:30 p.m., spouses and children of deployed service members can enjoy a low cost meal
Dress Code:
The goal of our food service professionals is to provide superior, nutritious meals to all guests in a pleasingly relaxing and healthy environment. To that end, we ask your help by following these guidelines:
- All civilian attire will be of good taste, free of obscenities and not offensive to others.
- The use of cell phones is prohibited with the exception of official business.
- Tank tops and halter-tops are not authorized.
- Open-toed shoes, sandals are not authorized.
- Sweaty work out attire will not be worn.
- All hats, scarves and bandannas must be removed before entering the facility.
Additionally, those in uniform must follow dress and personal appearance standards outlined in AFI 36-2903. Your assistance in following these rules ensure a pleasant dining experience for all guests. If you have any questions, please contact the dining facility superintendent or management team

The Afterburner Grill
opened in May of 2007 as part of the Chandler Deployment Center. We are conveniently located next to the flight line and offer a casual atmosphere for flight line and support personnel to stop in for a quick bite to eat, or grab their meal and go.

The CMSgt Emerson E. Williams Dining Facility opened in February 2003. This $5.8 million dollar dining facility has a total area of 18,072 square feet to provide our customers a pleasant dining experience. Additionally, our "grab-and-go" program transferred to the Afterburner Grill which opened in 2007 next to the Deployment Center on the flight line. The Dining Facility was selected "Best Food Services Operation" in Air Combat Command for 2004 and 2005. It also represented ACC in the Air Force Hennessy Competition in 2004 and 2005.
Chief Master Sergeant Emerson E. Williams was the Food Service Superintendent at Shaw AFB from 1965 until 1969 and again from 1972 until his retirement from active duty in 1974. Mr. Williams became Food Service Officer in 1975 at Shaw and remained at the position until he was promoted to Deputy Chief of Services in 1988. He pioneered the A la Carte feeding system for the Air Force using Shaw AFB as the test base bringing a higher standard to food service and retiring the old mess hall feeding system. He led and inspired food service teams to win "Best in TAC" and "Best in PACAF" honors at Ubon Royal Thai Air Force Base, Thailand ; Shaw AFB, South Carolina and Kadena Air Base, Okinawa , Japan . Chief Williams led the Food Service Team at Kadena Air Base winning the John L. Hennessy Award for the "Best in Air Force" Food Service in 1969. As Deputy Chief of Services, Mr. Williams made Shaw AFB the benchmark for TAC in both Lodging and Food Service earning "Best in TAC" honors from 1989 through 1992. Ultimately building high quality of life programs long before quality of life became the buzzword for the Air Force.
Chief Master Sergeant Emerson E. Williams was born in Kershaw County, South Carolina on 16 August 1930. He quit attending Baron-DeKalb High School to help out his family support the family farm. He worked at the Spring Mill Farm Co-op in Kershaw County and received his high school equivalency before enlisting in the Air Force in 1951. His assignments included Langley AFB, Virginia, England AFB, Louisiana; Ubon RTAFB, Thailand; Kadena AB, Okinawa, Japan and Shaw AFB, South Carolina. Chief Williams retired from the Air Force in 1974 and started his civil service with the Air Force in 1975. During his civil service career at Shaw AFB, South Carolina he served as Food Service Officer and Deputy Chief of Services until his second retirement in 1992. Altogether, Chief Williams served the Air Force faithfully for 40 years and always strived for excellence with never-ending enthusiasm for the airmen he served.
