The Youth Sports Complex located on the far side of the flight line by the FamCamp is also operated by the Youth Center. It consists of 3 lighted baseball/softball fields, 1 multi-purpose field and 2 lighted soccer fields. The complex also offers a full concession stand, a playground, and a pavilion.

Our philosophy and mission is to provide organized leagues as well as informal sports and fitness activities for youth ages 4-17. Our goal is to provide every participant an opportunity to learn the fundamentals of whatever particular sport they choose. We want to place the kids in a fun and learning environment that ranges from noncompetitive to low-key competitive for younger ages 4-10, and a normal competitive environment for ages 11-17.

Through this environment Shaw AFB Youth Programs strives to provide each youth with a means in which to develop desirable physical skills and to mature emotionally and socially. These skills are developed through interaction with other children, volunteer leaders, and our Youth Programs staff.

Shaw AFB Youth Programs has fully implemented the National Standards for Youth Sports and is in strict accordance and compliance with AFI 34-249 and AFMAN 34-804. Combined, these two instruments insure that every youth comes away from our program with a positive and rewarding experience.

The program's intent is not to develop the next professional athlete, but to teach all participants the fundamentals of a variety of games and to place an emphasis on participation and fun rather than a win at all cost mentality.

Volunteer Coaches are the backbone to the youth sports program. If you love sports and enjoy children this is the job for you! Volunteering is a wonderful way to give back to the Shaw community.

Contact the Youth Sports Director at 895-2251 for information on registration, and volunteer opportunities for coaching.
