THE MCELVEEN LIBRARY IS GOING "DIGITAL"
The Shaw library is enhancing the literary collection with digital books and more. In a digital age, it is easier than ever to provide premium content to our patrons "online." The goals are to keep the library open 24/7, lend popular and classic eBooks, Audiobooks, and establish interactive multimedia with Kindles and Overdrive with other electronic reading devices.

UNIVERSAL CLASS COMING IN FALL 2011
Patrons who are interested in learning new skills, however, do not want to pay college expenses to take the class can benefit from Universal class. Universal class provides patrons with the opportunity to preview what a typical college course will cover and provides the option to decide if this is a course that they would like to receive college credit. Patrons preparing for CLEP-test can examine unique testing options thru Universal Class. Additionally, for patrons who would like to spruce up their resume' with certifications universal class is the way to go.

Note to Parents: Air Force Librarians, per AFI 34-270, 2.4.5, are instructed to follow the American Library Association (ALA) Bill of Rights to ensure that the selection process is free from censorship. The instruction also states: "Libraries will also apply the principles of intellectual freedom, not only in selection, but also in all aspects of library service, by implementing the Interpretations of the Library Bill of Rights, the Privacy Act, and the procedures for handling complaints set forth in the Intellectual Freedom Manual and updates from ALA's Office of Intellectual Freedom."

The ALA Policy Manual states in section 53.1.4: "Denying minors access to certain library materials and services available to adults is a violation of the Library Bill of Rights. Librarians and governing bodies should maintain that parents--and only parents--have the right and the responsibility to restrict the access of their children--to library resources. Adopted 1972, amended 1982, 1992."
